But she said that her opera training is crucial to her having the stamina to perform the demanding role night after night. The role of Christine is a vocally challenging one, even for an experienced opera singer like Picerno, who performs in six shows out of eight each week.

“You chip away, little by little, and you really study, and then once you have the essence of her, then I wear the skin that is Christine, and I infuse my own experiences, my own heartbreak, my own joys, my own successes, my own abandonment, and that’s how I start to build the character,” Picerno said. The music helps to illuminate Christine’s personality, as well as her relationships with her husband, her son, and the Phantom. “You can find the character, at least the foundation for the colors of her, in the score itself,” she said. … She makes her decisions out of love and strength.” “I think that Christine has unfortunate circumstances and challenges thrown at her, but I do find her still a strong character. “I consider myself a very strong woman, but I do also realize that Meghan Picerno of 2018, the strength that I can show and the freedom I have to show my strength as a woman in this way, is not the same kind of strength that Christine Daae of 1907 would have,” Picerno said in a recent phone interview. In creating her take on the character, Picerno, who’s also an opera singer, did a lot of research on the time period, the early years of the 20th century. Meghan Picerno, who plays Christine Daae in the sequel, lives in a different world, and century, than her character, but she said it’s still possible to find parallels between their experiences. The two are reunited when Christine comes to New York to perform. It sent shivers up my spine and gave me goosebumps. The musical “Love Never Dies” revisits the characters of “The Phantom of the Opera” a decade later, as the Phantom is living on Coney Island, and his great love Christine Daae is a world-renowned opera singer with a husband and a child. Overall, I rate this film a 5/5 and definitely recommend it. I wouldn't be surprised if more roles in Hollywood turned up for her. Miss Ellison has been trained in acting, singing and dancing and so was well equipped to the play the part, and carried it off very well. Another pleasant surprise is that Jennifer Ellison was actually rather good in her role as Meg, Christine's best friend. Watching the Phantom and Raoul, certainly separated the boys from the men and the girls from the women. Butler played him, was so sexy and he drew the WOMEN to him. I actually ended up warming to him, and when asked by my boyfriend who I would choose Raoul or the Phantom, I said the Phantom. Although his vocal skills weren't entirely right for the part, he portrayed the Phantom as a lot of people see him as a victim. However, the star of the piece for me, was Gerard Butler (the Phantom). Although Raoul seemed a bit wet and droopy, he was still gorgeous and made the GIRLS in the audience swoon. Patrick Wilson (Raoul), out of all of them, had the most captivating voice.

Driver did not do all the vocals herself).

Her singing was overdone to add to the character (even though Ms. Her hand gestures added to the mannerisms of a typical diva. Minnie Driver (La Carlotta) was very funny in her Italian diva role. When she started to sing, my mouth literally dropped open.

Emmy Rossum (Christine) was 17 when this was filmed and was absolutely outstanding. The theatre set itself was absolutely stunning marble and velvet being the main materials within it. France is known for its beauty, and this adaption certainly paid homage to that. Although I have never seen it on-stage, the film version - for me - was so enchanting that I now cannot wait to obtain tickets to it. I dragged my long suffering boyfriend to see The Phantom of the Opera on Sunday, and was pleasantly surprised by it.
